Why daring women?
Why did I set up the Daring Women of Edinburgh walking tour? Why did I name my business “Daring Women”?
During the past few years I have been tested in so many ways. Extreme endurance tests unexpectedly appeared in my life. Often I had to find ways to come through the challenges on my own or with some support from a friend far away on the phone.

I dug really deep inside me to find the courage, determination and resilience to feel my way through the challenges. The challenge of standing up to neighbours who tried to scare me away because I was different and a woman living alone. The challenge of having no money and working out how to survive. The challenge of asking for help when I really needed it.
When I planned the Daring Women of Edinburgh tour I searched for stories of women who would truly inspire not just me but others. Women who had faced adversity, women who were towers of strength, women who had vision and kept going despite numerous obstacles. I wanted the stories of the trailblazing women in Edinburgh’s history to remain the minds of tour participants so they could recall them in their own troubling times.

Since I launched the tour on a chilly day in November 2022 I have been amazed at the impact of the tour. I have seen tour participants change in the course of the tour to feeling inspired, upbeat and clearer about their own inner strengths. I have also been moved by the daring stories of women, girls and others who have participated in the tour. I have witnessed a similar impact for women on my workshops.

This year I have taken the brave step to rename my business “Daring Women”. It encapsulates the true importance of my work. To lead as a daring woman. To help women and girls become more daring. To help them find their true purpose. Through our own daringness, we can ignite positive change, change so desperately needed in our society. And we can inspire others too.
